Next week we are looking forward to welcoming parents into the classroom on Thursday to experience first hand how your child learns maths. Classrooms will be set up with different stations to work through with your child – just like in their everyday lessons. Stations, also known as rotations or centres, are specific activities set up around the classroom where students can practice skills that they’ve already been taught in class. Each station has different hands on activities that provide students with an opportunity to practice the skills they’ve learnt. Teachers move around the stations observing students’ skills and evaluating whether they understand and can apply the concepts learnt. Teachers are easily able to offer a quick intervention to students who are struggling or who need an extension to make the task more challenging.
When students are given the chance to practice skills on their own they can try out new ways of doing things and truly make the learning their own. Students also support each other at stations, collaborating on activities and sharing ideas for how to complete activities. We look forward to hosting you on Thursday.
Over the next 7 days we will also be wrapping up the basketball leagues, playing the games that were previously postponed. Good luck to all our students playing.
