We are half way through Kindness Week. The school is covered in beautiful posters reminding us all to be kind to our friends, to ourselves, to the environment and to others. Balconies have an increasing number of kindness ribbons on as students receive ribbons for acts of kindness where they are going above and beyond what is expected of them. We are seeing more and more students greeting each other and as we trial Years 1 – 6 playing together before school, it is wonderful to see relationships being developed across the different year groups – school is certainly becoming a place we are colouring in kindness.
This week students have been writing letters and cards to each other, to teachers and to family members. It has been touching to see students really think about what they have to be grateful for. Some of my favourite quotes from the cards include:
“Thank you for being my first ever friend at KCIS.”
“Thank you for being my sister, and looking after me.”
“Thank you for making everyone smile. Everyone smiles because of you.”
“Thank you for teaching me things I thought weren’t possible.”
“I have enjoyed making this journey with you through the ups and downs since Year 1.”
This weekend, please encourage your child to work on their Kindness Challenge Card – talk to your child about why they are doing different activities. Their answer may well be to complete the Kindness Card so challenge them further as to how they are going to keep this up and what the importance of continuing this is long after Kindness Week. And as you are encouraging your child to complete their Kindness Challenge Card why not also reach out to a friend or family member, to your children or a teacher and let them know how special they are to you too.
