Welcome to the holidays! It has been a great 4 months of learning since school resumed in August and it has been wonderful to see so much learning and development throughout the whole school both in and outside the classroom. It is now time for students to rest and reset, meet up with friends and family, explore and take part in activities which the busy term time does not always allow for.
Many of you will know I am a huge advocate of reading aloud to children, and the holidays provide a great opportunity to kick start this as a family or to continue this special time together. The benefits of reading aloud to children are enormous: it builds their vocabulary and feeds their imagination; it develops their memory and makes them better readers, listeners and communicators. It also develops their creativity, concentration, empathy, and understanding of the world. It has been proven that reading aloud to your child 6 – 7 days a week can add 12 months onto their reading skills age. So these holidays, amongst the social activities and celebrations, set aside some regular time with your child, find a quiet corner and enjoy exploring some of the wonderful children’s literature available, however old your child is!
As we go into the holidays, on behalf of everyone at KCIS, I would like to thank you for your ongoing support and for partnering with us in your child’s education journey. We wish you and wonderful break, and to those celebrating this festive season, a very Merry Christmas.
